Mid-RW Observations

  • I've been reading a lot of comments about how Corduroy is the best thing since sliced bread.  While I don't think Corduroy is a bad restaurant, I do think there's too much hype surrounding it.  I get the impression that people think it's a great restaurant because they've been told they should think so.  The cuisine is unimaginitive and the ambience is dull.
  • Similarly, I'm tired of people calling Corduroy a "foodie secret."  It's not a secret - people have been buzzing about this place for well over a year.
  • Viridian was great - they offered the full menu and the service was great despite being packed.  Nevertheless, Tosca remains my best RW experience.  But I am partial to italian food.
  • Indebleu and Butterfield 9 are extending RW by a week, and I Ricchi is holding a restaurant month.

The worst restaurant week experience I ever had was at Butterfield 9. Poor service, poor selection, and still 30.06. Granted, that was 18 months ago, but unless there have been serious changes, I would suggest that if people have a fixin' for a prix fixe menu that they go to 1789 or one the numerous other places in town that don't serve mediocre fare.

i'm with you on the corduroy rant. as i've said before, the super hotelishness of the room is just such a letdown. you'd think they could jazz that up a bit. the food was good, but i have no desire to eat another meal in that room.

i want to try acadiana.

Did RW at Bobby Van's (steakhouse, not grill) last night and was pleasantly surprised. Excellent service, perfectly cooked filet, nice salad. Dessert was eh. It's a big place, but sectioned in a way that mitigates the noise and the bustle. There are a million steak places, and I would go so far as to say that this is the best, but it beats the crap out of the Palm. God, I hate that place. Crappy, crappy steaks and idiots who actually want to be on the wall. Tools.

whoops, meant to say I would NOT go so far as to say it's the best. That honor, although it's a chain, goes to Ruth's Chris. I mean, steak and butter? Heaven. Oh, and Ray's. Yeah, that's prolly the best steak. Playing yourself if you don't cross the bridge to get to it.

I think there are far better gauges out there than sliced bread. Fire: definitely. The wheel: certainly. Sliced Bread: good with peanut butter. And melted cheese. But high in carbs. And can get stale. Or soggy.

Sierra Nevada Light--now that would be the ultimate measuring stick. Just need them to invent it.

Heading to Veridian tomorrow--cannot wait!

I can't stand the term "foodie" anyway. I think it would be better used to describe someone who uses food objects for sexual purposes, much in the way "Furry" or "Plushy" describes someone who gets off by getting off in a fursuit.

George: Food and sex, those are my two passions. It's only natural to combine them.

Jerry: Natural? Sex is about love between a man and a woman, not a man and a sandwich.

George: Jerry, I'm not suggesting getting rid of the girl. She's integral.

Jerry: Maybe instead of trying to satisfy two of your needs, how about satisfying one of somebody else's?
