Plagiarism

Yesterday The Boy of Urban Family fame said:

"What an f*cking beautiful day. When I leave work, I'm going to head over to Lauriol Plaza and drink a margarita as big as my head!"

...and I totally copied him by doing the exact same thing last night. Although, I think my head is actually a little bigger than half a pitcher. But sitting there outside, sweating under the heat lamps, drinking margaritas, and eating overpriced mediocre mexican food, you would have never known it was late January.

I also want to take the time to point something out: see how The Boy spell "Lauriol" correctly? Not Loreal, or Larial, or Lorrial... This has to be the most often misspelled restaurant in the DC blog scene, with DCist commenters being the major perpetrators. So take note childrens.

The fact that you publicly acknowledge the mediocrity of Lauriol Plaza (instead of acting like Jebus himself created it as a personal gift to DC, and one well worth the often obscene waits) warms me to the cockles of my heart.

I usually have time for a whole pitcher before I'm even seated. But it usually takes a while for me, because I won't sit anywhere but the downstairs terrace. I know that I'm not paying for the crappy food they have there, but rather to have people walk by and see me eating the crappy mexican food and getting loaded on rail tequila.

We got there right around 8pm and got a seat on the downstairs terrace without any wait at all. That was nice, but without the wait I drink less. That is probably for the best, but I'd rather be three sheets to the wind when my food comes. It tastes much better that way.

Lauriol is definitely overpriced for what you get. For a bit less I hit the El Salvadoran hotspot El Tamarindo -- the food doesn't exactly set your heart racing, but it works just fine, as do the margaritas.

No, El Tamarindo beats the pants off Lauriol Plaza, though they really inhabit two different worlds. Lauriol Plaza is for a trendy happy hour/dinner when you don't mind being squeezed between other trendy Washingtonians, whereas El Tamarindo is for after last call, when you want a quiet drunk meal with your friends.

The only reason anyone ever eats at Lauriol (I hope) is b/c of the massive amout of outdoor seating. I prefer Tamarindo also, but alas, no outdoorsyness.
