Yet Another Columbia Heights Shooting

On Friday night around 10:30pm, a clerk at the 14th/Columbia 7-11 was shot in the arm with a shotgun during a robbery.  Apparently the injury was not life-threatening.  I live literally steps from that 7-11.  I go there at least three or four times a week for soda, incidental groceries, etc.  In fact, I had tried to go in that night to get toilet paper, but the police tape told me that I wouldn't be getting in anytime soon.  I don't think I should have to endanger my life for toilet paper.

I hate Columbia Heights, and I can't wait to move back to Woodley Park.  I'm putting my condo on the market in August if anyone's interested.  Not that I would recommend it.

I blame the real estate agents/landlords, there's been a lot of smoke blown up residents' asses over the past 4 years or so. I lived there from September 2003-December 2004; one mugging and two attempted break-ins to my car taught me the neighborhood isn't getting better. In fact, I thought it got worse.

In Flagstaff, there were 2 DUIs yesterday, as well as one car broken into, and a ring that was left in a hotel bathroom and later stolen. Sometimes I hate this little town, then other times I remember why I left Philadelphia, and major cities all together.

I would offer to buy your condo because I want to live close to that metro stop. However, I'm not in a position to buy right now, and I don't like the prospect of being shot at.

Aww don't hate on the Heights! I moved (far) away this summer and still miss it. Especially those times when you're sitting around watching TV, hear a gun shot, and hit mute just for a minute to listen for ambulances

All of us at Rorschach make regular use of that 7-11. I know it probably betrays some fugazi-style credo I became party to back in high school, but for the good of operations in that neighborhood, I can only hope that the place gets less dangerous as quickly as possible. It's hard enough getting patrons out there, especially with nowhere clear and safe to park outside of right in front of the theatre.

I decline your kind offer.

I don't think it's the real estate agents/landlords shooting people in 7-11s (maybe stealing their cars though). I probably couldn't sleep anymore if I didn't hear an ambulance every few minutes (they drown out the honking).

No Pdgas, but they're the ones downplaying the dangers of living in Columbia Heights. I'm sure RCR bought his condo with the help of a heaping tablespoon of bullshit from one (or several) people.

I don't doubt that Matt. That seems to be their job. And to unload it, RCR will have to sell some other poor sucker the same "this is an up-and-coming neighborhood" line, with any luck making enough in the deal to buy a place in Woodley.

I knew the state of the neighborhood already, and I was fine with it for a while. But now I'm fed up with it b/c, as Matt said, it seems to be getting worse.

I don't really think I'll buy again. Too much of a commitment, and I really don't know how much longer I'll be here. San Fran's looking pretty, pretty good right now.
