Un-PC Hall of Fame

We here at the Rambler do not consider ourselves to be very PC.  In fact, sometimes we can be downright distasteful.  Sometimes, we refer to ourselves in the plural.  So when I see or hear something that makes even ME stop and say "Wow," I feel compelled to share it with you.  Today I just overheard a phone conversation where the term "diversity nazi" was used.  What's distinctive about this phrase is not only the casual use of the word "nazi," effectively making light of the Holocaust, but the fact that it's actually oxymoronic by suggesting that one who seeks for greater [ethnic] diversity could also be a Nazi.  So congratulations, guy across the hall, for the most un-PC term of the day.

Several of us at work have called our safety guy the "safety nazi". Seinfeld has many variations of ____ nazi acceptable.

At least the term is used in a derogatory sense. I don't think 'nazi' is ever used as a term of endearment.

Hmmm... sometimes I refer to God as the "divinity nazi." Always pushing that divinity on people.

Nice! Remember that segment in The Twilight Zone movie when the racist/bigotted guy ends up going through 'Nam and such? Let's send this guy to Auschwitz circa 1941 so he can watch members of my family march to their deaths...

RCR--check this out:

www.dcblogs.com, the top story today. This chick calls herself a "spelling Nazi." Another addition to your Un-PC Hall of Shame...

In regard to Penny's point, not so sure I would be harsh about it.I detected nothing mean-spirited in the use. I think RCR is right about the use in the context of the word "diversity," for very obvious reasons -- but in regard to spelling? Had the term Brown Shirts made it more acceptable? Should Mel Brook's The Producers be banned?

OK, ya got me there. I'm just very sensitive to the use of the word.

Personally, I say kudos to your for bristling just a little with casual, fun, and flippant "nazi" references. The holocaust sucked deeply enough (understatement) that it probably doesn't need to become the ubiquitous nike-swoosh of analogy branding for all things unliked.

That's freaking hilarious.

God (Yahweh, anyway) was indeed a divinity Nazi. He is responsible for more acts of genocide and wanton slaughter than any kingdom or country in the history of mankind. Poor Sodomites and Gomorrans.

AUA, you get some kind of award for finding a use for the phrase "Poor Sodomites and Gomorrans." I'm not sure what the award is, but you get it.

I don't consider myself very PC,but nazi and n**ger are the two that get me. N**ger bothers me whether it's a black person or any other color person, especially in casual conversation. It really really bothers me in away messages, especially if the person using it is not black even if they are quoting song lyrics....

talk about sensitive :)

PC...sensitivity...what about this?

But why does "nazi" bother you as much as the other 'n' word? Nazis are scumbags. The other word is something a nazi would use to dehumanize an entire race. Not even in the same league...

And the award for Unique, I think is, Best Expression of Sympathy For A Nation Of People For Whom Deviant Sexual Acts Are Now Refferred To As. Or something like that.

e - I'm not particularly bothered by it. I'm not bothered by any word - it is JUST a word. That said, I can still recognize an insensitive remark when I hear it. It may not bother me, but I know it will offend others. I suppose this could be a post on it's own.

Phil - you got it. I nominate you to engrave the trophy.

Just to clarify, I'm drawing a distinction between what is offensive to me and what is offensive to society. I'm not saying that word's shouldn't or cant' be offensive - I am just not easily offended.

What should be on the trophy? A man offering a reassuring hand on the shoulder of another man who is fellating another man?

Yes, and a tear running down his cheek.

I'm not as offended by nazi as I am by the other n word....not nearly, but it's still one of those words that makes my ears perk up. With words like nazi and the other n word it's too hard to draw a line between being funny or casual and offending someone so I feel like why bother?

There are lots of other ways to be funny and un-PC that aren't going to offend people as much....
