More Columbia Heights Gentrification

I got this off my building's listserv.  It happened about half a block from my apt.:

"Around 9:45pm Thursday night, I was riding west on my bicycle on Columbia Rd between 14th and 13th st when someone through a drink at me. I stopped to vent my anger at the group of 20 or so kids standing around when someone hit me in the neck from behind and then 4 or 5 kids took turns attacking and hitting me in the face from all sides. I was knocked off my bike and someone then took it and rode off. I was hit in the face/neck several times. The was group of kids standing around just laughed and egged the attackers on. I attempted to leave, but the group continued to attack me, knocking me to the ground. I eventually made it to the corner of 14th where I called the police. Now when I say these were kids I mean approximately 16-18 years old. They thought it was really funny to beat up a white boy. Good times."
Roving gangs of teenagers with no parental supervision?  What could be the harm in that?
