Resigning Sucks
I finally submitted my formal resignation yesterday. That really
really really sucked. I actually broke out into a cold sweat
right before I went to his office. As if I didn't already feel
bad, my boss proceeded to compliment me and tell me I have a
natuaral ability for [what I do]. Today he told me he wasn't
going to try to change my mind, but said he be quite happy if I
rescinded my decision. All of this even though I came in
100 hours below our yearly minimum, which is already really effing
low. Argh, I hate making real-life decisions.

If there is any logical reason to keep that tie connected, you should look for it in terms of having supportive people in your life.
I am sure you are making the right decision, and it is always nice to hear that he thinks so highly of you. Maybe you can work with him again some day:)
Good luck and good hunting!
